This policy explains what personal information Beer Scholar LLC ("Beer Scholar", "we", "us") collects when you visit thebeerscholar.com, join our mailing list, or enroll in a course, and what we do with it. The short version: we collect only what we need to run the courses and send you email you asked for, and we never sell your information.
What we collect
When you browse this site. We use Google Analytics to see which pages get visited and how people find us. It uses cookies and collects standard device details such as your browser type, approximate location, and the pages you view. Our web host, Cloudflare, also keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and time of visit) to keep the site secure and running.
When you join the mailing list. We collect your email address, your first name if you give it, and which exam you told us you're studying for. Our email provider, Kit, stores that information and records whether emails are opened and links are clicked.
When you enroll in a course. Enrollment and payment happen on Skool, a third-party community platform. Skool and its payment processor collect your name, email, and payment details under Skool's own terms and privacy policy. We never see or store your full card number. We receive your name, email, what you bought, and when.
When you use the Beer Scholar Study Lab. Our study app at studylab.thebeerscholar.com stores your email address, your course level and access dates, and your study progress (quiz and practice exam results and flashcard ratings) so you can pick up where you left off. It uses a single login cookie to keep you signed in.
When you contact us. We keep the emails and messages you send us so we can answer them.
How we use it
- To give you access to the course you bought and to support you as a student.
- To send the emails you signed up for: free study resources, the Six Pack newsletter, and occasional course news and deals.
- To send account emails, such as Study Lab login links and notices about your access term.
- To understand how the site and courses are used so we can improve them.
- To prevent fraud and misuse, including sharing of logins.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Beer Scholar, each for its own job: Skool (courses, community, and checkout), Kit (email), Google (analytics, advertising, and our business email), Cloudflare (website and Study Lab hosting), Resend (Study Lab login emails), and Zapier (connecting these systems). We may also disclose information when the law requires it or to protect our rights.
From time to time we may run online advertising, for example Google Ads shown to people searching for beer exam prep. When we do, the advertising provider may use cookies or similar technology to measure how those ads perform and to show our ads to people who have visited this site. You can control ad personalization in Google's ad settings or opt out of many ad networks at optout.aboutads.info.
Your choices
- Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. One click and you're off the list.
- You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out tool or by blocking cookies in your browser.
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing [email protected]. This applies wherever you live, including Europe, the UK, and California.
Our site does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals.
Where your information is kept, and for how long
Beer Scholar is based in the United States, and so are most of our service providers. If you are outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
We keep student and purchase records for as long as needed to run the business and meet tax and legal requirements. We keep your mailing list record until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
Children
Our courses are about beer and are meant for adults of legal drinking age (21 and over in the United States). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
We may update this policy as our tools or practices change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
